Q&A
How creative or practical should an entry be for the competition?
I think the entries should be super creative otherwise the entrants may as well be on a draughting course. Excellent design should always be grounded with practicality but should surf the crest of risk.
What would appeal to you or excite you when looking at the entries?
Wow! factor would appeal to me. Made up of lots of spunk mixed with a brave heart and a big dash of creative juice.
Is there anything that would put you off or that you would dislike?
Too safe design that doesn't challenge would turn me off.
What do you think or what would you be looking for with regards this brief for @home?
A design solution that has never been remotely seen before, with a high content of technology driving the approach.
How important is the presentation of the entry and how should students focus on presenting their work?
The power of the image and the presentation itself is massively important in the design world as long as the design itself is the king and not a lousy solution dressed up with smoke and mirrors.
How do you get inspiration for your work and have you had a good experience designing a retail space which may be of interest to the entrants?
I find the best inspiration for a design process is to go deep inside yourself and feel the solution with pure design emotion come through your senses which you need to trust emphatically, drawing from what you have built inside of yourself with whatever years of experience or training you have established.
