PG Bison’s 1.618 Competition & Awards for Students of Architecture & Interior Design PG Bison is celebrating the 16th Anniversary year of its prestigious Student Design Competition and Awards in 2010 with a fanfare, including a new name - 1.sixoneeight - a new logo and a sprinkling of new judges, all industry leaders and design gurus drawn from the world of interior design and architecture. “With the proliferation of similar award competitions in the past few years, we felt it was time to make a few refreshing changes to what has proved to be a very successful formula for the company’s longstanding student awards competition,” says Jason Wells, Brand Manager of PG Bison. 2009 Winner 2009 winner Kylie McFadyen with her lecturer Michelle Hankinson from the Durban University of Technology who will be heading off to the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair later in the year. 1.SixOneEight “We needed to modernize the brand and competition to appeal to the ever-changing makeup of the student market, while maintaining the competition’s prestige,” explains Wells, “The new brand concept is designed to appeal to a specific target market – students of architecture and interior design – while pushing traditional competition boundaries. We know students like to be challenged while expressing their creativity in a fast-paced and ever changing world. However, in this frenzied environment, it’s important to also retain principles and values which have stood the test of time and will continue to do so in the future. That’s why we’ve chosen 1.sixoneeight [also known as the Golden Ratio] as the name of the competition. It’s a phenomenon that is appealing, admirable – and in many cases – mythically alluring, because it cannot be completely, logically explained.” Call to Entry Entry to the competition is now open.
