The Trophy
The PG Bison 1.618 trophy was designed by Brian Steinhobel* whose achievements are legendary both in South Africa and around the world.

Brian explains that the trophy is a symbol of the ‘eureka’ moment or ‘spark of genius’ which designers frequently refer to when working or creating.

He says, “It represents that thing or moment when an individual has their brilliant idea and it is often seen as a bright spark moment or explosive thought.”

Essentially, Brian believes that the trophy needed to represent that ‘idea’ or ‘moment of creativity’ that won the award. Like all good ideas these are often fleeting, slippery, move quickly and change shape like mercury - hence the colour of the award.

However, the winning ideas also represent good form and style and these are evident in the trophy and link perfectly to the attractive notion of the golden mean.

*Brian Steinhobel founded and heads up the Steinhobel Group of Companies, carrying out consultant and entrepreneurial product development with industrial design clients spanning Asia, Europe and the Americas.
